Hernia Surgery
Both men and women can suffer from hernia, and it is important to understand what a hernia is, as well as the repair options available.
What is a Hernia?
A good analogy of a hernia is that of an inner tube pushing through the surface of a damaged tire. Abdominal wall hernia occurs when the layers of the abdominal muscle weaken and bulge through the abdominal wall. In turn, this can allow a loop of intestine or abdominal tissue to push into the sac, causing discomfort, pain, or other serious problems that may require emergency surgery.
Hernias can be formed during fetal development or later in life and grow into masses or swellings. To prevent complications such as strangulation, where the blood supply to the intestines is cut off, it is critical to get your abdominal wall hernia treated. Our surgeons have experience in managing inguinal or groin hernias, femoral hernias, umbilical hernias, incisional hernias, and more.
